Story Part I

My first memory was of waking up on the beach to the gentle, rhythmic sounds of ocean waves. My eyes felt heavy as if I'd been in a deep sleep for a long time. Everything around me looked so familiar yet so foreign at the same time. I felt like I had been here before, but I couldn't recall anything.

As I got up and walked down the beach, people started gathering around me. They looked at me strangely and asked questions I realized I had no answers to:Who are you?
Where are you from?
Are those real ears?I didn't even notice I had ears, but they felt real enough.

The questions piled on along with the onlookers, and the emptiness in my memories took on an eerily familiar shape of darkness that began to engulf me. Who am I? I echoed in my head. The darkness did not answer. The more I sought within, the quicker it spread."You must be from another world!"Just before my vision faded, a crisp and bright voice unexpectedly pierced the darkness like knife through fabric, and a few rays of light furtively darted in, casting an uncanny shadow upon me.

I turned my head in the direction of the light. A young girl dressed in the colors of the ocean was staring at me excitedly.Hearing no response, she repeated her remark once more and pointed at me this time, as if afraid I'd mistake who she was talking to. An eager smile was slowly spreading across her face, a smile that could challenge the forces of darkness.

Something stirred deep within me, and a figment of memory surfaced within reach: countless faces, all smiling. I couldn't make out any other features, but with each smile the darkness dissipated a little further. Whoever these faces were, whatever smiles they held, must have been really important to me.Still are really important to me.
